Futures Literacy (FL) is a skill and a process that embraces imagination and helps planners better understand the role the future plays in what we do. What assumptions about the future are shaping the plans we make today? This learning-by-doing online workshop will use the future as a lens to examine the values and beliefs behind our anticipations — and to challenge what we think is possible.
Learning outcomes:
- Explain the concept of FL and identify how unstated assumptions about the future shape present-day planning decisions.
- Recognize imagination as a core professional competency and articulate how FL practice can be integrated into collaborative and participatory planning processes.
- Apply at least one structured FL technique to generate and interpret stories about alternative futures.
