Training Details: 3 CM

Looking to build listening agility, embrace vulnerability, and respond to tension with confidence and care?

Back by popular demand, it's "Wait, Why Am I Talking?" Active Listening as a Planner's Best Friend. During this live training, Phil Green, AICP, will teach attendees critical engagement skills through improv-based exercises. Upon registering, planners will receive access to the on-demand component led by Corrin Wendell, FAICP, which lays critical groundwork on what active listening is and how it can be applied in planning contexts. Completion of the webinar grants 1 CM (included in the total 3 CM for the entire program) and is required to get the most out of the training.

The training will be offered twice, on Thursday, August 20, and Thursday, August 27, at 12–2 p.m. CT, so you can attend whichever works best for your schedule.

During the interactive training, Phil will use structured improv and role-play exercises with real-time feedback to help participants put their active listening skills into practice. By framing conversations, offering “exit ramps” in tense moments, and using listening as a tool for de-escalation and connection, planners will learn to stay present even when things don’t go as planned.

Learn how curiosity could be planners’ most underrated tool.
